Google is releasing a developer preview starting today that can be downloaded from developer.android.com/wear that will allow devs to bring features from their existing Android apps to to smartwatches and other wearables that are running Android Wear. Google Releases Android Wear Smartwatch Software

Google is on the attach in the Smartwatch war. They just released a pared down version of Android focused on wearable technology / smartwatches. According to Google:
Today we’re announcing Android Wear, a project that extends Android to wearables. And we’re starting with the most familiar wearable—watches. Going well beyond the mere act of just telling you the time, a range of new devices along with an expansive catalog of apps…”
I think the NYT Bits Blog gets at where Google is going:
Google is clearly trying to change that for wearable computers by making its software public before the market takes off.”
